I proudly tell people that I have been referred to as the “hands of ACT”, because of my highly pragmatic, clinician friendly approach to teaching ACT. ACT and FACT (Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) workshops typically range from 1-3 days in length. These workshops help participants grasp the basic principles of the ACT Psychological Flexibility model at a clinical level, and they also learn to identify the in-session signs of the core psychological processes that lead to suffering and behavioral rigidity that bring clients into therapy in the first place.

I recently helped develop the CARE approach to ACT training. CARE is a sequential framework for grouping the clinical tasks and associated therapeutic skills needed to complete a powerful, transformational psychotherapy session. Each letter of the CARE heuristics represents a specific clinical task that the therapist wants to complete in order to create the building blocks for powerful single session change. This approach makes it much easier for clinicians to understand how to apply the ACT model in daily practice.

My workshops involve a balanced combination of didactic teaching, self-exploration, guided experiential exercises, video demonstrations and structured skill training using dyadic and small group role playing.
